Maintenance
Even a properly maintained kiln requires scheduled outages to effect repairs, change out refractory, etc. Thorough planning, experienced work management and supervision, and use of state of the art equipment and procedures can substantially reduce downtime required to effect such repairs. Our exclusive Total Service Program covers virtually all aspects of rotary equipment maintenance and repair.
Alignment
Routine alignment evaluations will significantly reduce the cost of kiln operations. The savings are achieved by minimizing the loss of refractory due to mechanical stresses, minimizing the electrical power required to rotate the kiln, reducing the wear of the mechanical drive and load bearing support components of the kiln and minimize kiln shell cracking associated with misalignment.
Resurfacing
The process of grinding the load bearing surfaces of kiln tires and support rollers to
remove the uneven wear that occurs through normal operation, was pioneered by Phillips.
This process is performed while the rotary kiln is in production and results in improved
mechanical stability of the kiln and reduced power required to rotate the kiln.
Ovality
Ovality is defined as the change in curvature or flexing of a kiln shell that occurs through a revolution. Since most kilns are lined with refractory, a high ovality or excessively flexing the shell during each rotation will have a detrimental affect on the refractory. Phillips developed the first and only high resolution electronic instrument to accurately measure the ovality of a kiln shell. Data is stored and presented in a windows-based program.
